My name is Tyler Chidester and I created a way to store energy using electrolysis and hydrogen fuel cell technology during my junior year of High School. I am interested in finding better materials and mechanisms for hydrogen production, collection, and compression that are necessary for my design to be feasible. This design is a promising start to a hydrogen economy and I am hoping to do further research in college. I hope everyone who sees this site finds this experiment as awesome as I do and will go out and try it for themselves!

The Set Up
In my Hydrogen Fuel Cell set up, I used a set of 8 AA batteries as my energy source which had a total of 12 volts. The the current flows through the wire and Oxygen and Hydrogen are collected at the electrodes (pieces of graphite). When I flip the switch, the connection to the battery is cut and instead the two graphite leads are connected to a small LED light. The Hydrogen and Oxygen recombine to form water and electric energy. The electricity flows from the water and lights up the LED light. Awesome!
